Dog food manufacturers are recalling some dogs that contain the dog food Esso Cesar Dog Food.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says that Esso products are not being recalled because the manufacturer has not identified any defects with the dogs.
The agency says that there have been 1,634 recalls of Esso dog food in Canada.
“The CFIA is issuing a recall alert because the safety of dogs has been compromised and because Esso has not responded to any of the appropriate notifications for dogs with suspected dog food allergies,” CFIA spokesperson Chris Parnell said in an email.
There have been no deaths reported related to dogs being exposed to the food, but the agency says people should be especially careful when eating the Esso product because it may contain other ingredients that may be harmful.
The company says that a review of all Esso recalled dogs is underway and that Esseos recall is being done under the supervision of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of Canada.
“Esso is committed to protecting the health and safety of its customers, and the company has taken all appropriate measures to ensure the safety and quality of the food that is being recalled,” Parnill said.
“We are actively working with our manufacturing partners to address the risk that the product may contain any other ingredients not listed on the product label.”
Esso has been a company in operation since the late 1980s and was incorporated in 1995.
Esso is the world’s third-largest food company after Nestle and General Mills.
The CFAA has launched an investigation into the safety concerns raised by customers about Esso’s products.
