A vegan bakery in Brighton, England, has been testing customers for food allergies.
The test, called Food Allergy Testing, was developed by a team of doctors and food allergies experts.
“We believe that there is a need to educate the public on food allergies and how to recognise symptoms and treatments,” a spokesperson for the Bake Off Food Allergen Testing Lab told Business Insider.
It is a partnership between the Bake off Food Allergent Test Lab and the UK Food Allergic Society, which is funded by the National Health Service and the Department of Health.
There are currently 1,200 food allergy tests taking place across the country.
To make sure they are as accurate as possible, the team has taken the test in a number of different locations.
Its an automated test that takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and it only takes a single saliva sample from a person’s mouth to test for food allergy.
You can test for allergies to dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, nuts, seeds, wheat and sugar.
When testing is completed, the test team can also send out a survey to ask people for their thoughts about food allergies, and they can also share the results with the public via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
For those who have tested positive for food intolerance, the results can be shared with the Food Allercity Forum.
As well as taking the test, the Bake on Food Allert Testing Lab also runs a free online food allergy awareness programme, called ‘Food Allergy Check’.
“In addition to this, we also run an online survey which we will be asking for people’s thoughts on food allergy,” the spokesperson said.
What is an allergy?
The term food allergy is often used to describe a reaction to certain foods, which can lead to severe reactions.
Food allergies can cause symptoms like fever, runny nose, wheezing, swelling of the face, chest pain, joint pain and more.
