A food service delivery service is opening in Sydney in late 2018.
Food delivery company Caramel will be the first Australian company to deliver food in the CBD.
The company is based in Melbourne, but has a Sydney branch in New South Wales.
Food delivered to the city’s CBDs is often delivered via the public transport system.
Caramel’s CEO, Daniel Bowers, said the business would be a “very different” experience for people in the area.
“I think it’s a lot different for the person who’s on foot, it’s probably a little bit of a different experience for the people walking through the CBD,” he said.
“We’re going to be really interested to see how that’s going to go.”
This is a really good opportunity to do this in the public realm.
“A lot of people who are doing this in public have a couple of problems they’ve got to deal with and a lot of them have to go through security, which can be pretty rough.”
He said the company’s aim was to create a “delivery network that allows people to go to places that have a good range of services and have good prices and a good customer service.”
Mr Bowers said the new business would serve the “small and medium business” market.
“Our customers are not necessarily the big players in the retail sector, they’re the smaller, medium and small business people, we think that’s a really, really interesting market,” he added.
“And this is just the beginning, we want to expand and really work with people in that market to see if we can build a sustainable business that really delivers good value to people.”
The company was founded in 2013 by Daniel Bower and Adam Gollop.
The couple own a food delivery business, Deliveroo, and are working on a new food delivery app.
