Cuban food is widely available in the United States and Canada.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently expanded the program, known as Cuban Food Stamps, to cover the entire country.
The goal of the new program is to help the country’s poorest families, with an average monthly income of $11,000, purchase the basics for their families, including food.
It also aims to help families who need to relocate with food to other parts of the country, according to the U.S. Food and [[Page S7401]] Drug Administration website.
The program is designed to be affordable and easy for families to use.
In 2017, the first Cubans in the country qualified for the food stamps program, but the U of C students were not eligible.
“The Cubans are already making a difference in this country and this country is going to continue to be a major beneficiary of this program.
We are working with them,” said Alisa Gonzalez, who is the associate dean for international relations at the university.
The new food stamps offer to help poor families, especially the poorest families with children, is not new, said Gonzalez.
“This is something that is a reality for the Cubans.
They are one of the richest countries in the world, but they still have a lot of challenges,” said Gonzalez, whose research focuses on poverty and poverty alleviation in Latin America.
Gonzalez said she has met several Cuban families who have recently applied for food stamps in Florida.
“They’ve been able to get a lot from this program, which is great.
It is a great program to provide some of the basics that families have been asking for,” she said.
